ACORN Should Not Receive Taxpayers' Money
May 22, 2009 by Phyllis Schlafly
Several prominent non-Republicans and ex-Republicans have been all over the media giving advice to Republicans about how they should re-brand themselves and which issues they should talk about. Among this unsolicited advice is that Republicans should stop criticizing ACORN.
Au contraire; Republicans should loudly demand that ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) be cut off from all further handouts of taxpayers' money. After all, didn't Barack Obama promise us an ethical administration and an end to the influence of lobbyists and special interests?
ACORN is one of the most successful lobbyists for taxpayers' money, which ACORN uses for very partisan special-interest activities. ACORN and its affiliated organizations (estimated at 270 related corporations and so-called non-profits) are under investigation in more than a dozen states for voter registration fraud, and there's no question about which party and which candidate ACORN supports.
Nevertheless, ACORN and its affiliated organizations (disguised as nongovernmental "neighborhood stabilization" organizations) could receive $3 billion (with a B) from Obama's stimulus package and another $5.5 billion from his 2010 federal budget. That is after receiving $53 million of taxpayers' money over the last 15 years.
* Nevada charged ACORN groups with submitting thousands of fraudulent voter registration forms in 2008, and illegally setting quotas for its canvassers and paying them bonuses for signing up more than 21 new voters a day. The Las Vegas registrar of voters believes 48 percent of registrations turned in by ACORN were fraudulent.
* Nevada's Democratic Attorney General said that ACORN's training manuals "clearly detail, condone and ... require illegal acts" such as requiring workers to meet voter-registration targets in order to keep their jobs.
* Pennsylvania authorities charged seven ACORN workers with falsifying voter registration forms. The voter registrar said that ACORN submitted at least 1,500 fraudulent registrations during last year's presidential campaign.
* Washington State fined ACORN $25,000 after several employees were convicted of voter registration fraud in 2007.
* Last year, eight national ACORN board members demanded an audit of ACORN's books. The result was that the eight were removed.
ACORN's blatantly partisan activities with taxpayers' and other non-profit funds make it an appropriate target for a congressional hearing. After first agreeing to hold a hearing, the Democrats then reneged and refused to hold one.
Barack Obama has for years had a close working relationship with ACORN, as a community organizer, as the head of a registration effort for Project Vote (one of ACORN's partners), as attorney for a very important lawsuit, and for get-out-the-vote assistance in his 2008 presidential campaign. When he met with ACORN leaders last year, Obama bragged that he "ran the Project Vote voter registrations drive in Illinois."
In 1995, Obama represented ACORN in a case upholding the Motor Voter Act. That law authorized postcard registration, which proved so useful to ACORN workers in filing false registrations.
In 2008, Obama's presidential campaign reported paying $832,000 to Citizens Consulting Inc., the umbrella group controlling ACORN, for get-out-the-vote efforts in key primary states. ACORN and its affiliated groups put thousands of get-out-the-vote workers in battleground states during the presidential campaign last year.
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) successfully persuaded the House Financial Services Committee to unanimously pass an amendment to the Mortgage Reform and Anti-Predatory Lending Act prohibiting any organization indicted for voter fraud from receiving federal housing grants. Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) then had a tantrum and got the Democrats to remove it.
Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) tried to prohibit ACORN from getting federal funds through the new Serve America Act. But Harry Reid's Senate killed that constructive idea.
It's not just taxpayers' money that ACORN has had at its disposal; ACORN also has received generous grants from top recipients of federal bailout money. Bank of America (almost $3 million), Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase made big grants to ACORN Housing Corp., one of ACORN's many affiliated organizations.
It is particularly important to expose ACORN's political activities because of its new relationship with the Census Bureau, the agency tasked with compiling the 2010 census. The count of the U.S. population will determine which states gain or lose votes in both the U.S. House and the Electoral College, and which districts get more federal handouts.
American constitutional government cannot survive if the population count is managed and manipulated by organizations with partisan bias. The importance of a fair and accurate count cannot be overestimated because the count can give one party an unfair advantage and control over America for the next decade.
Yet the Obama Administration chose ACORN to recruit counters for the 2010 Census, and they are already canvassing neighborhoods. Rep. Patrick McHenry's (R-NC) effort to sever the Census Bureau-ACORN partnership should be supported by all who want honest elections.

Napolitano Does It Again.
Shifting Stories: Napolitano’s Recent Comments No Comfort to Patriotic Conservative Americans ─ Lawsuit Moves Forward
Wednesday, May 20, 2009
People - Janet Napolitano 2 - SmallANN ARBOR, MI – Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s May 12, 2009, revised explanation to a congressional subcommittee about her Department’s controversial “Rightwing Extremism” report raises even more questions about her candor and competence to protect our nation from terrorists.
Napolitano originally told Americans that she had been briefed before its release and stood by the “Report.” However, when public outrage over its contents reached a crescendo, she backtracked and told Americans she would have “reworded” the section that labeled returning veterans as potential terrorists. When that did not calm the outrage, she apologized to veterans. Now, Napolitano claims a rogue employee published the report without authorization.
On May 12, 2009, Napolitano told a congressional subcommittee that the Report “was not authorized to be distributed, ” and that it was taken off the Department’s website.
Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center, reacted to her latest explanation, “Our lawsuit against Secretary Napolitano will continue. Since we filed that lawsuit, additional information has been brought to our attention that creates even more concern that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is unconstitutionally targeting Americans merely because of their conservative beliefs. Moreover, simply removing the report from the DHS website, without a condemnation of its contents and specific instructions to all the enforcement agencies receiving it that that it should not be used, is merely hiding the evidence of an insidious ongoing agenda to go after conservative Americans. In fact, her comment to the subcommittee that the report is being ‘redone’ and will be ‘much more precise’ in view of her previous linguistic contortions, is too vague to give comfort to conservative Americans.”
Significantly, Napolitano has never apologized or retracted the report’s specific targeting as ‘potential terrorists’ conservative Americans who:
* Oppose abortions
* Oppose same-sex marriage
* Oppose restrictions on firearms
* Oppose lax immigration
* Oppose the policies of President Obama regarding immigration, citizenship, and the expansion of social programs
* Oppose continuation of free trade agreements
* Are suspect of foreign regimes
* Fear Communist regimes
* Oppose a “one world” government
* Bemoan the decline of U.S. stature in the world
* Are upset with loss of U.S. manufacturing jobs to China and India
* . . . and the list goes on.
Homeland Security’s “Rightwing Extremism” report, “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment, ” which was first made public in a “leaked” Intelligence Assessment violates the civil liberties of American citizens by targeting them for disfavored treatment on account of their political beliefs.

On April 16, 2009, the Thomas More Law Center, a public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan filed a lawsuit against Janet Napolitano and the Department of Homeland Security in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of nationally syndicated conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage, Gregg Cunningham (President of the pro-life organization Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, Inc), and Iraqi War Marine veteran Kevin Murray.
The Law Center claims that DHS has violated the First and Fifth Amendment Constitutional rights of these three plaintiffs by targeting them for disfavored treatment and chilling their free speech, expressive association, and equal protection rights. The lawsuit further claims that DHS encourages law enforcement officers throughout the nation to target and report citizens to federal officials as suspicious rightwing extremists and potential terrorists because of their political beliefs.
The Law Center is asking the court to declare that the DHS policy violates the First and Fifth Amendments, to permanently enjoin the Policy and its application to the plaintiffs’ speech and other activities, and to award the plaintiffs their reasonable attorney’s fees and costs for having to bring the lawsuit.

If you are opposed to any Liberal agenda and a VETERAN, you are now a "TERRORIST".
What ever happened to the Democrats supporting our troops? In fact, it wasn't very long ago we heard comments from the Democrats that told the American people just how much they supported the troop. Of course, 2008 was an election year.
Now, we've seen over the past couple of weeks Nancy Pelosi tried to "LIE" her way from the comments about how the C.I.A. "lied to Congress" about enhanced interrogation techniques in briefings she obviously knew about.
Here are ten reasons why I could NEVER trust Democrats:
It would be comical were it not that they now are in charge of all three branches of government. You may think I'm being a little premature when I say this, but with Judge Sutter retiring from the Supreme Court you can bet Obama, A.C.O.R.N., Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the rest of the Liberal "LOONS" will push for a far-left person to take his place.
So those of you that put these idiots in office I say this, when you are paying a days wage for a loaf of bread, you only have yourselves to blame. And that day isn't that far off.
Sorry about your luck.

Burger King Receiving Heat for 'Highly Sexualized' Kids Meal Ad
By Eric Young

A letter-writing campaign launched in response to a controversial new ad by Burger King has mobilized nearly 10,000 concerned citizens over the course of three weeks.
Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009“Almost 10,000 emails (9,800) have been sent by CCFC members to Nick and Burger King,” Josh Golin, associate director of Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood, reported Tuesday to The Christian Post.
In the meantime, the contested ad had run nationally more than 1,950 times, including twice during a Saturday afternoon screening of the Scooby Doo movie.
“It also ran during American Idol, frequently the top-rated show for children twelve and under,” Golin noted.
Burger King, however, has claimed that its new “Kids Meal” ad is directed toward parents of children and not toward children.
"The 99-cent BK Kids Meal is a value-based offer aimed at adults and requires an adult BK Value Meal purchase. This value offering enables the entire family to enjoy an affordable quality meal,” the company explained in a statement to the media.
The ad, which first appeared last month, features “The King” singing a remix of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s 1990s hit song "Baby Got Back” with the lyrics, “I like square butts and I cannot lie.” The ad shows images of The King singing in front of women shaking their bottoms for the camera intercut with images of SpongeBob dancing along. At one point during the ad, The King even measures the bottom of one of the women who has a stuffed phonebook under her dress.
“It’s bad enough when companies use a beloved media character like SpongeBob to promote junk food to children, but it’s utterly reprehensible when that character simultaneously promotes objectified, sexualized images of women,” commented CCFC director Dr. Susan Linn, a psychologist at the Judge Baker Children's Center.
“Featuring SpongeBob in an ad like this is a new low,” added Joe Kelly of TheDadMan.com, a CCFC Steering Committee Member. “Parents who hope to instill values in their children like respect for women would do well to steer clear of Burger King and Bikini Bottom.”
CCFC – a national coalition of health care professionals, educators, advocacy groups and concerned parents – is encouraging concerned individuals to join in their campaign to get Nickelodeon and Burger King to “immediately” pull the ad.
The group is also asking whether Nickelodeon Television President Cyma Zarghami approved the controversial SpongeBob SquareButt television commercial.
“Parents deserve to know whether Nickelodeon-the most popular children’s television network-signed off on the use of SpongeBob in a commercial that celebrates lechery and objectifies women,” said CCFC director Linn.
“Cartoon characters play a powerful role in the lives of young audiences,” she argued. “That Burger King and Nickelodeon would sell Kids Meals by associating a beloved, male character like SpongeBob with lechery shows how little either company cares about the wellbeing of the children they target.”
CCFC is a program of the Judge Baker Children’s Center at Harvard University.

If you think Burger King is alone in this practice, GUESS AGAIN !
Have any of you seen the latest QUIZNO commercial where the oven speaks about their latest sandwich, "The Toasty Torpedo Sandwich"? In the commercial, the male voice of the oven tells the male employee to take the "sandwich" and "put it in" the oven using a seductive voice.
If you think Burger King is promoting a sexual content with their commercial, then I think QUIZNO is promoting homosexuality with theirs. Either way you look at it, SEX sells. At least that's what these two companies think. Remember that the next time you go out to eat.
And as for working there, well.........if you want to be in the SEX INDUSTRY might I suggest "Craig's List". At least there no one needs to loose their LUNCH.

Facts - What Homosexuals Hate
This article is from Tony Perkins' Washington Update
Facts - What Homosexuals Hate
IMHO, as with Miss California, Carrie Prejean, Rep. Foxx should be commended for speaking the truth in spite of the public skewering from the Liberal Left and their homosexual supporters. These are the kind of leaders the GOP needs if they want control in Washington. =-)
We should continue to support her.
